Obama and the environment

I found the following link (here) to be quite informative in giving a synopsis of Obama's stance on various environmental issues. This site also has many articles/blogs/columns relating to the environment. I am sure through a more thorough search there are similar writeups for all of the presidential candidates. The bullet points below summarize Obama's stance on major environmental issues:
  • Cutting CO2 emmissions by 80% below 1990 levels utilizing a cap and trade system.
  • Revenue from emissions trading would be deployed to research and develop clean energy alternatives and technology ($30 billion to $50 billion a year).
  • Calls for an additional $150 billion to be used on R&D for renewables over the next 10 years.
  • 25% of US electricity to be generated by renewables by 2015.
  • Obama also calls for major improvements in energy efficiency and fuel economy over the next several years.

Although he appears have taken very important steps in addressing the enviroment he also has also unfortunately offered tremendous support for ethanol based fuels (including dreaded corn) as summarized in the following quote from the article:

"Has sponsored or cosponsored a mind-numbing array of bills to promote ethanol and other biofuels. The bills' many overlapping provisions include offering tax credits and other incentives for biofuel production, E85 infrastructure, and flex-fuel and alt-fuel vehicles;Has sponsored or cosponsored a mind-numbing array of bills to promote ethanol and other biofuels.
