The Hydrogen Plane

See a video of the hydrogen plane being tested in Spain.

The first manned, hydrogen-powered plane developed by Boeing was recently tested in Spain. The plane's propeller uses an electric motor powered by hydrogen fuel cells and a battery designed by the UK firm Intelligent Energy.

Boeing states that although hydrogen is not a viable energy source for passenger planes, large planed may eventually be powered or assisted by hydrogen fuel cells to make them greener.

Is this another move by an energy intensive industry to be perceived as "green" and thereby improve shareholder value? Or is this technology an opportunity for serious investment as it circumvents the challenges faced by the auto industry (distribution network, storage)?

Let's wait and see..
