Inconvenient Truth

Although several have already blogged on the importance of bi-partisan politics in addressing climate change, this point cannot be overstated. The U.S. has lagged against its international counterparts in taking real action to reducing carbon emissions as liberals and conservatives debate over the realness of climate change. This political debate has resulted in inaction from the world's leader in per capita emissions.

While Al Gore may be a hypocrite and perhaps the Inconvenient Truth uses questionable tactics in presenting its message, the movie is important in that it brings the issue of climate change to popular culture. Al Gore is often an easy target for ridicule but this should not undermine the realness of climate change and the need for U.S. to take action to reducing carbon emissions. By developing a successful movie that is viewed by millions, awareness is generated which will hopefully result in policy change as government elected officials will be forced into action.
